Our experience upgrading Doc's Place BBS Wildcat V5 BBS software to Winserver 7. In a nutshell after a week of trying squash html display template bugs and dealing with other nightmares Doc deleted Winserver V7 and sent it back to Santronics Software for a refund.

Our experience installing Santronics Software Winserver AKA Wildcat Interactive Net Server

Doc thought modern bbs software would help the decline of bbs callers. Our old Wildcat V5 is from 1997. It was suffering connection problems via modern browsers. So Doc took the plunge and ordered an upgrade of the latest Wildcat bbs software now called Winserver V7.

$236 was a big investment and Doc soon found out Wins 7 was not of Responsive design and not compatible with smartphones. A barrage of bugs ensued. SSL certificate was installed but failed a cert security test miserably.

The most serious bug was new members could not register. Santronics fixed that bug but required an Auto Update Program (AUP) subscription to get the fixed file.

To make a long story short Doc uninstalled Winserver 7 and sent it back for a refund. Then restore the previous Wildcat V5 from backup. A week of unbelievable stress dealing with that POS!

The good news is Doc is installing Synchronet BBS software on another node /141. It's FREE and pretty slick. Offers email, nntp fido via news reader, web and telnet access with flexible port configuration. It's a chore setting up but has excellent documentation.
